Our adoration of pre-disco-era Bee Gees is well documented, so imagine our delight at being given the opportunity to premiere this video and fantastic song from To Love The Bee Gees: A Tribute To The Brothers Gibb, a star-studded charity tribute, released November 27 by 80 Proof Media.
Produced by Todd Bisson and Bennett Freed, To Love the Bee Gees features 28 songs by 17 artists, including Mexican funk heavyweights Kinky, former Boo Radleys guitarist/songwriter Martin Carr, and Isobel Campbell of Belle & Sebastian.
All this music has been made in the service of a worthy cause: profits from To Love the Bee Gees will go to the Boston-based Foundation to be Named Later and their Peter Gammons Scholarship program.
“The first time anyone ever recorded one of our songs would have to be at least fifty years ago,” said Barry Gibb, in a statement provided exclusively to The Big Takeover. “I’m always honored that anyone ever bothered to do that.
“It’s an awesome experience to look at an album like this featuring so many great artists, singing our songs that were created over such a lifetime,” said Gibb. “I’ll never forget the time and the place when they came about and some came about in the most abstract situations. So, this is an enormous pleasure to listen to and hopefully my brothers are listening in and with great approval.”
SheLoom is comprised of singer and multi-instrumentalist Eric Matthews, Jordon Zadorozny (Blinker The Star), and producer songwriter/producer Filippo Gaetani; their reverent version of “Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You” from 1967’s Bee Gees 1st is a day-glo wonder. We’re sure Robin and Maurice would dig it!
