While the Boston and New Hampshire-based band Happy Just To See You has always had one foot in alt-country and the other in New England emo, they bring the twang up a notch on their new third album, Last Week’s Horse. The Big Takeover today is proud to premiere their new music video for the album’s energetic and irresistibly catchy single, “Rat U Out.”
Filmed by director Chris Tremblay, the music video shows the arc of a relationship before it runs its course with actors Sierra Taylor and Raymond Chapen. While the main character in the story loses herself in the relationship, she also seems to find herself again while catching the band at a house show.
Frontman Evan Benoit said of the video,
“The song is a bit of a melodrama story, the heart of it is a love that just isn’t meant to work. The music video expounds upon that idea, it’s someone realizing their identity, their life, is theirs to live. They had become so wrapped up in this other person, in this relationship, that they lost themselves. The video is kind of them finding themself again.”
Courtney Swain (Bent Knee, Courtney and Brad) engineered the record, and Brad Krieger (Ian Sweet, Friendship) produced, mixed, and mastered Last Week’s Horse. Both Swain and Krieger contributed additional instrumentation and vocals across the record too, including the synth on “Rat U Out.”
