Chicago surfy indie-rock band Impulsive Hearts recently announced the remaster to their debut album Sorry in the Summer with indie-rock record label Cavity Search Records. The remastered album will be out on March 28th and The Big Takeover is pleased to share the record’s last single “WASP” today with the band’s psychedelic music video.
The band has been releasing music for over 10 years and have released three albums since then, most recently with last year’s Fit 4 The Apocalypse. Taking inspiration from indie-rock bands like Best Coast and Dum Dum Girls, frontwoman Danielle Sines says the band also adds a “hint of indelible Midwestern sadness” to their surfy, garage-pop sound.
Sines says of the single and video:
“The song started off as a lot of my songs do, as a weirdo voice memo of a melody and some strange lyrics. The song came to me when I was gardening and what I thought was a wasp turned out to be a bumblebee. When I got to my home studio to record it, I wanted to create the most chaotic symphony of noise possible and I layered vintage piano, synths, and organs over thick fuzzy guitars. I also wanted to have a talking break where I let it all loose and it became more theatrical, which happens during the drum breakdown. I was excited for the music video because I was able to play dress-up and make it look especially psychedelic.”
Impulsive Hearts has grown and refreshed their sound since Sorry in the Summer originally came out nearly a decade ago. The remasters show off the beachy garage band at their best.
Sorry in the Summer will be released on March 28th via Cavity Search Records.
