Swansea Sound formed during lockdown and reunited Amelia Fletcher and Hue Williams, who hadn’t performed together since the heady days of The Pooh Sticks. Swansea Sound’s first single ‘Corporate Indie Band’ established them as purveyors of very catchy, very sardonic pop music, and their first album Live At The Rum Puncheon continued in a similar vein. Now they are on the verge of releasing their second album Twentieth Century, a collection of twelve more raucous indiepop tunes, that take a witty, dark look at the excesses of the twentieth century and the alienation of the twenty first. ‘Keep Your Head On’, the first single is a duet, and encourages listeners to maintain their cool in the face of conspiracy theory nutjobs, neo-con propaganda and bad rock music.
Rob (guitarist and songwriter) says “Keep Your Head On” is about the rising tide of authoritarian populism. But it’s an upbeat duet at the same time. It’s a bit like an indiepop version of ‘You’re The One That I Want’, but with less dancing and kissing.”_
“Keep Your Head On” drops 20 June, but you can see the video exclusively at Big Takoever now. The album Twentieth Century will be available for pre-order on the same day and will be fully released on 8th September.
