Video Premiere: "Please Please" by Mythological Horses

1 February 2024

After a 5 year hiatus Mythological Horses returns with a proper 3rd album out February 2nd on Godless America Records taking the band to new musical heights of pure rock n roll balanced with the band’s early Anti-Folk beginnings. The band’s 3rd studio album titled SKY KING after Richard Russell the Alaska Airlines employee who stole an airplane from Seatac airport in 2018 and tragically crashed it into an uninhabited island in the San Juan islands. The new album starts off fast and hard with the first side of the album being electric and then slowing down to tea next to the fireplace as you flip the album to side two which takes a more acoustic approach.

Led by American singer songwriter Shawn Holley the band has stayed true to their bedroom stoner teenage rock anthems but with ever so many more catchy riffs and underlying bubblegum tones watching Peter Pan syndrome play out in real time as Holley enters his mid 40’s and medical issues are a major factor in his life now. “I like to say I’m the proud new owner of Lupus and Rheumatoid arthritis (A condition that attacks the body’s joints causing extreme swelling and pain). It’s no fun but I have definitly earned it with my hard living past, at least I still have hands, like my hands could have been cut off but nope I still have them, they just don’t work as well as they used to and as a guitar player that’s pretty scary”. Pretty scary is right as the band was in the studio recording their new album Holley’s hands swelled up twice the normal size and spent most days in the studio icing his hands and taking over the counter pain medication. Even with his swollen hands and an infected wisdom tooth to add making his face swell up and talk with a heavy lisp, Holley pushed forward and got the job done.

With the help of heavy handed drummers Jordan Duttinger and Jest Commons (The Moldy Peaches) the band is backed by grunge hall of famers Kurt Bloch (The Fastbacks) Kurt Danielson (TAD), Kevin Whitworth (Love Battery) and Lori Goldston (Nirvana) and produced and engineered by TAD front man Tad Doyle at Witch Ape Studios in Seattle Wa.

The addition of cover art by Peter Bagge (HATE comics) and photographs by Subpop historian and photographer Charles Peterson makes SKY KING a 10 out of 10 for Mythological Horses!
