Garage Glamour, the new album from veteran Chicago noir-rockers The Claudettes, is filled with their signature blend of glitz and grit. Grammy-winning producer Steve Berkowitz (Bob Dylan, Miles Davis) co-produced much of Garage Glamour with The Claudettes.
“Touch You Back” attains Funk perfection thanks to the guest guitar work of the one and only Ella Feingold (Erykah Badu, Queen Latifah, Silk Sonic…), as well as co-production by JQ, co-composer of original score of Emmy-winning smash FX/Hulu series “The Bear” with the Claudettes founder Johnny Iguana. Johnny, the group’s composer/pianist has played on albums featuring Derek Trucks, Johnny Winter, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, James Cotton among others and is now reaching a worldwide audience with his work on “The Bear.”
But the spotlight here is firmly focused on lead singer Rachel Williams, who has been dropping jaws at The Claudettes’ shows since early 2023. She makes her recording debut with the band, sure to rivet listeners with her soulful vocals. Radically ranging from powerhouse singer to protean character actor, Rachel Williams asserts herself majestically here (“majestic” being the way one audience member described Rachel’s entrance to the stage at an outdoor summer concert). And for all the sounds, styles, omens and homages heard on this astonishing new album, Garage Glamour presents a band with a unified sound and an ultimately uplifting outlook.
