Best Coast - For The First Time (Concord Records)

5 November 2019

Best Coast are back, and we are the better for it. Almost five-years since their last full album, the acclaimed Californian Nights, the duo of Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno are firing on all artistic cylinders again. The single “For The First Time” is a cut taken from the upcoming Always Tomorrow set for release sometime in 2020. It is playful, melodic bliss, with an addictive beat which floats along under the harmonious vocals which soothe from the deep within Cosentino.

The theme of “For The First Time” looks into the subject of self-identify and image, shedding skin with growth whilst remaining happy with the one you possess. In a time of objectivity through social media and status, it is an honest look at the skewed fake existence which passed for normality. Heavy subjects, but executed with an effortless style, wholly unique and a reminder of how much the band has been missed.

Talk of a new album, and a new song is not the end of the news, as Best Coast hit the road on a headline tour of North America (dates below). For some of the shows they will have Pennsylvania’s Mannequin Pussy in tow, whi already are riding a wave of success with their recent Patience album. Certainly 2020 is already looking promising, if “For The First Time” is anything to go by, audiences are in for another stellar release.
