This is a brash banger from a band who beats down the pretentious ego-driven soulless sound within modern music. The Kut are an all-female, three-piece, combining a slice of nineties Riot-Grrrl with the guitar churning of alternative rock via R.E.M.. In a year which has already seen the return of L7, Sleater-Kinney and a masterpiece from Kim Gordon, it would be downright disrespectful not to shine a light on their latest.
Following on from last-years acclaimed Valley Of Thorns long-player, they now release a single of scintillating style with “X-Ray Eyes”. The combination of the venomous vocal and scuzz-driven guitar of Princess Maha, the churning bass of Stella Vie and colliding drums of Diana Bartmann, audiences are presented with a band who can out class their contemporaries effortlessly.
The energy of “X-Ray Eyes” is magnetic, and will immediately draw audiences into the bands’ aura, setting them on a path of discovery. There is of course the question-why aren’t these guys bigger?
That is because for the minute, they are hinged in the arena of cult act. The Kut are a band who slide beneath the surface of commercialism. However, there is that feeling of breaking through after the amount of accolades already bestowed upon the outfit (UK Top-ten hit). This is not simply a band which is on the move or up-and-coming anymore, it is fairer to say The Kut are the revolution waiting to erupt.
