I thought that face looked familiar. As I press play on the new video for Aerolinea’s latest single, “Nervous,” who do I see standing next to Victoria Real but Eric Weissinger from the rather brilliant dream-pop/shoegazer outfit I Am a Rocketship. The man certainly knows how to pick great musical projects.
Ahead of their full-length debut album, All We Need, which will be along at the end of the month, this Argentinia-American duo brings us a perfect sample of what to expect with their latest succulent and beguiling single. Over just a stark beat, the two weave together their guitars, one offering raw and abrasive strokes, the other delicate cascades of lightness, and use their voices in a call-and-response fashion, sometimes echoing, often answering, sometimes complimenting, other times contrasting.
As the title suggests, they are evoking nervousness here, specifically the feeling that something is missing, that a connection has been lost, a nervousness born out of unknowing. And this they do brilliantly, balancing a sort of stark beauty with a breathless anticipation.
A single’s job is to make the listener want to know more, want to hear more and want to invest in a more immersive experience, in short, buy the album. On the strength of this track, you can take my money right now. Go on, have it.
