Aggressive Soccer Moms - Crossroads (Pipaluckbolaget)

28 May 2025

If I used the term post-punk, most discerning music fans would have an idea of what music deserving of such a tag sounds like, and snippets of bands like Joy Division, The Cure, or even The Smiths may come readily to mind. However, there was always a more intriguing sonic underbelly to this already underground genre, one typified by the bands that were less commercial successes and more critically favored and cultishly followed. And it is these bands, The Fall, Gang of Four and Wire that echo through “Crossroads,” the latest single from the brilliantly named Aggressive Soccer Moms.

Here, we enter a sonic world of controlled discordance and robotic drives, snarled lyrics and industrial beats, abrasive edges, and clashing creativity. It’s a song that plows its own singular furrow through the musical landscape, a sonic trench that moves relentlessly onward, unmoved by fad or fashion, genre, or even listeners’ expectations. This is music made for one reason and one reason only – because it is the sound that Aggressive Soccer Moms want to make. It’s as simple as that!

If Aggressive Soccer Moms’ work rate might have dropped off over the last two years, this, their twenty-fourth single from their tenth album, which drops any day now, is the sound of a band, not only back in the game but winning said game hands down.

Good things come to those who wait, I guess!
