Alwyn Morrison - Puzzle Piece (self-released)

10 March 2026

“Puzzle Piece” finds Alwyn Morrison heading out for pastures new, and while the song is clearly built on rock ‘n’ roll traditions, it can be branded neither classic nor alternative in nature. Why should it be? Most sensible music makers left such limiting labels behind a long time ago.

Rock music…it’s just rock music, rock music that moves with the times by embracing a slightly pop-aware contagion and some cool indie grooves, rock music that is finessed rather than forced. Music that comes naturally rather than feeling manufactured to conform with whatever fad and fashion is running through the music scene this week.

As he blends both jangling melodics and darker energies, analog acoustics and digital dexterity, Morrison muses on the complexities of connection in the modern world, digging deep into themes that are both highly personal and universally relatable, a soundtrack to the human experience.

Not only a great single but an indication of his new direction of travel, one that is darker, more digitally-infused, rock-driven yet adventurous enough to be all about where the genre goes from here rather than reflecting on where it has already been.

Everything moves on, and music moves on too, as it must, but the art is to merely keep up with tastes and times and gradually evolve rather than try to change things beyond all recognition and lose the core audience. And this is exactly where we find Morrison on this latest single.

Evolution rather than revolution every time!
