Whoa, who brought the brown acid?
To say that Ami Dang’s music is indescribable would be an understatement. Although there are clearly references for where such unique music originated, it’s truly unlike anything I’ve ever heard.
Let’s see if I can get this right. Take M.I.A.‘s beats (the hip-hopper, not the punk band), but instead of a rapper, make her a Bollywood singer heavy influenced by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Then take some really warped Ravi Shankar records and play them at the wrong speed, preferably slower. That’s basically it. There’s no need for extraneous flash or gimmicks. It’s simple, effective, entirely bizarre and wholly original.
