Bardz - Hold Me Close (Seeking Blue Records Inc)

5 May 2025

If you can imagine a place where acoustic pop infectiousness, folk finesse, and the inherent elegance of the dream-pop world all meet, then you can probably already imagine what “Hold Me Close,” the latest single from Bardz, sounds like.

It’s a clever affair, embracing so much yet threading everything together brilliantly and subtly. The acoustic guitar delicately sets the pace, Bardz’s smooth pop voice adds a layer of ethereal grace, and slowly, the song expands. Deft digital sounds and liquid sonics, drifting soundwashes, and electronic beats wrap around that song as it heads for its final destination.

It is what we call a slow burner. Its sonic increments are added almost imperceptibly, the sonic weight is gained subtly, and the distance it has come from those first simple, folk-pop guitar strokes is only recognized when you look back. And then, as you are marveling at just how cleverly the song has evolved, it drifts off on the wind, its work done, its impact made.

It is also an intimate song, Bardz writing an open letter to his father exploring love and grief, clarity and forgiveness. It is ultimately a personal declaration, but it is something that most of us can relate to as well.

It is a folk song that pushes into the dream pop world, a pop song that dances with indie deftness, and a cinematic soundscape built from emotion and vulnerability. It is all of that and more.
