Brandon Wayne - It's Me Again (Alzate Records / Productions)

8 August 2025

You might think that a song blending trap beats and anthemic alt-rock energies, outlaw country attitude, and sub-metal intensity would be the product of some mad music professor whose efforts to build a sonic chimera in his late-night laboratories (cue crack of thunder and a flash from the lightning conductor above) had gone horribly wrong.

Well, Brandon Wayne’s latest release, “It’s Me Again,” proves that it can be done. Not only can it be done, but it can be done deftly and effectively. Here, he brings together sounds and styles from across the musical map, from both sides of the digital/analog divide, from what was and what now is, what might have been and what never was. Genres are cast aside, sonic demarcations ignored, musical history rewritten. This is music which, whilst constructed of very recognisable constituent sonic parts, is like nothing you have heard before.

“It’s Me Again” is the sound of someone accepting the consequences of their actions, taking ownership of past mistakes — no distractions, no excuses. Born in a moment of emotional freefall, it channels that raw turbulence into a collision of distorted guitars and eerie synth washes, exciting dynamic shifts, and brutal walls of sound. It’s as chaotic as it is cathartic, a sonic mirror held up to Wayne’s inner storm. It’s a document of someone staring into the abyss, and the abyss staring right back at them, seeing who will blink first.

I’ve got fifty bucks on it being the abyss!
