Sometimes you need something new, a change, an experience outside your comfort zone. Sometimes it is great to see that the world is constantly moving forward. Never is this more true than in the musical world. But sometimes, all you need is a nice, familiar slab of punked-up, foot-on-the-monitor rock and roll. Something cut to the bone, something that simply does its job and nothing more. There’s a reason this music is called ‘classic’!
For his debut single, Criminal Hero shows us that he understands that although rock and roll is a long-established sound, amongst its raw grooves and anthemic highs, its grit and energy, there are still spaces to be explored. “You Better Believe” is the result, a song drawn from that place where classic rock overlaps with punk, where attitude is as much the attraction as the music itself, where uncompromising rhythms and unbridled drive do precisely what they always have and do them brilliantly.
“You Better Believe” is less about just languishing in past sonic glories, instead it is about picking up the torch and running headlong into the future with it, a sound that is both fresh and familiar.
Criminal Hero doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, but he does add some classy white-wall tires, polish the rims, then rev the engine and burns rubber all down the strip, turning more than a few heads and generally waking up the neighbours!
That’s rock and roll for you; that’s what it does so well.
