Dave Hunter and the Seven Hundred - Tamp That Fever Down (Happy Little Records)

14 July 2026

Dave Hunter and the Seven Hundred arrive with a debut shaped by experience. Tamp That Fever Down sits comfortably within the Americana and alt-country tradition, but its strongest moments come from the confidence of its performances and Hunter’s years as a songwriter are evident throughout, Opening track “It Made the Greatest Sound” establishes the album’s earthy tone, pairing ringing guitars with a rhythm section that keeps everything moving without drawing attention to itself. Elsewhere, “Leaving Westbrook” and “Even the Darkest Days” highlight the band’s ability to balance melancholy with resilience, while “Time” and “Back Again” reflect on change without slipping into sentimentality.

The musicianship is consistently impressive, but the arrangements leave enough breathing room for Hunter’s weathered vocals to carry the emotional weight. The production avoids excessive polish, giving the record a warm, live feel that suits its unhurried pace. Listeners familiar with Hunter’s work in The Molenes will recognise the same commitment to thoughtful songwriting, but this project stands comfortably on its own. It’s a truly stellar debut from a band that delivers deeply compelling roots rock with patience, purpose and quiet conviction, and it contains the promise of even more amazing music in the future.
