We all need a bit of motivation from time to time, encouragement to leave the comfort zones we have drawn closely around ourselves and get out there and go for it, grab life by the horns, and make the most of this short time we have. And that is such a purpose that lies at the heart of Ditka’s latest single.
With five albums to her name, Ditka has already built a solid reputation in her Slovenian homeland. Now, she is bringing her sound to a broader audience, and “Fly Higher,” her first English-language release, is precisely the sort of song to bridge that gap.
It rises from an understated slice of indie-folk to eventually explode with a more rock ‘n’ roll energy, albeit with a slight country vibe. The gradual, effortless transition as it passes through these various genres, mixing and matching and merging sounds, makes it a seamless sonic journey, a natural progression and an engaging experience.
It isn’t hard to imagine such a song in the hands of Aimee Mann or K T Tunstall, and as reference points go, that’s pretty good in my book. And if she is looking to make the transition from someone nationally well-known in her relatively small homeland to a rising star on the world stage, then this is precisely the song to get her noticed.
