Graveface Records (home of The Casket Girls and other great bands) in Savannah just released this split 12” vinyl on Record Store Day 2015. Dott is a band from Ireland and Night School (members of Whirr) hails from Northern California. “Car Song” from Dott opens it all up, and it is a nice addition to this label with its pretty vocals and a memorable tune. Up second is Night School’s “Unkind”, swollen with bright melodies, fuzzed out guitars, and a nice vocal turn from Alexandra Morte. Forget the band’s connection to Whirr, this is more akin to retro garage rock like Best Coast. Dott comes up again with the catchy “Glue”, whose melody and harmonies will indeed stick to your ears like glue. Night School finishes up the disk with “Black and Blue”, another sonic ride down memory lane. I especially love the understated drumming, perfectly matching the song’s cadence. All in all, a very satisfying vinyl treat for fans old and new.
