Dreamcoaster - Imaginary Reflections (Shelflife)

16 February 2026

The passage of five years can often dilute the creative spark of a musical project, but for the Brighton-based duo dreamcoaster, the half-decade hiatus preceding their third album, ‘Imaginary Reflections,’ has clearly served as a period of profound emotional and sonic distillation. Emerging from a concentrated two-month recording burst in early 2025, the record feels less like a collection of disparate tracks and more like a singular exhale. There is a sense of place woven into the fabric of the album; one can almost hear the expansive clarity of the South Downs in the shimmering production, a testament to the moments where Andrew and Jane Craig stepped away from the studio to let the Sussex landscape inform their creative instincts.

The album opens with “Catch Me When I Fall,” a track that immediately establishes the record’s central tension between the vulnerability of life and the sanctuary found in love. Andrew Craig, handling all instrumental performance and production duties, crafts a rhythmic environment that is both urgent and light, allowing Jane Craig’s vocals to hover with a translucent grace. This momentum carries directly into “Dancing To Your Favourite Song” and the propulsive “Faster Than You,” where the duo explores the more kinetic side of indie-pop. Here, the production avoids the cluttered artifice of modern digital trends, opting instead for a bright, organic warmth that feels remarkably alive.

A significant turning point in the record’s narrative arc arrives with the album version of “Don’t Lie To Me.” It serves as a grounded anchor, stripping away some of the escapist shimmer to reveal a deeper, more investigative lyricism. This honesty flows seamlessly into “Promise You’ll Be There” and “End Of The Rainbow,” a pair of songs that grapple with the complexities of commitment and the elusive nature of fulfillment. Andrew’s production throughout these tracks is masterful in its restraint; he builds layers of melodic texture that support rather than overshadow Jane’s delivery, creating a sense of intimacy that feels as though the listener has been invited into a private conversation.

The final third of the album leans into the duo’s most romantic and optimistic impulses. “Hello My Darling” and “Always Forever Again” act as sonic meditations on permanence in a world that often feels transitory. The record reaches its peak with the single version of “Feels Good (Better Than The Last One),” a track that radiates a hard-won sense of contentment. It is a bold, sun-drenched conclusion to an album that isn’t afraid to be earnest. ‘Imaginary Reflections’ is a sophisticated achievement in independent pop, a record that finds beauty in the act of looking back while keeping its gaze firmly fixed on the horizon. It is a work of quiet power, proving that the most resonant reflections are often those we find within ourselves after the noise of the world has been filtered out.
