Composer/Drummer Dylan Ryan returns with his daredevil trio Sand on their newest full length entitled Circa. The record builds upon the fusion and free of category feel of Sky Bleached, though this time with steeper hills and deeper valleys to tour.
Guitarist Timothy Young is given a lot of room to traverse on Circa, cuts like “Trees, Voices, Saturn” and “Sludge Tread” give Young tons of liberties – all are welcomed. The track “Pink Noir” gives spacious nods to Bill Frisell and “Slow Sculpture” would fit comfortably into any Wim Wenders soundtrack. Late cut “Low Fell” best exemplifies the harmony of this group and the elusive sound they are steadily getting closer to mastering.
