Eddie Cohn - Get Back My Way (self-released)

29 September 2025

Eddie Cohn has travelled a lot of miles in his quest to make music, both metaphorically and in a very real sense. In the process, he has drawn inspiration from all over the musical map, everything from pop to rock, grunge, and beyond. But even with someone who has done the hard miles, made music in many different forms, and for many different reasons, there is always somewhere new that they can take it. “Get Back My Way” is the sound of Cohn finding those new places to explore.

“Get Back My Way” is a song that works on many levels. Of course, there is the definant echo heard in the lyrics, that soul-searching, that return to who you are, that quest for authenticity and identity that we can all relate to. But it is also a deliberate return to a more acoustic-led, a more organic, perhaps more honest way of making music. It also reminds us that big music is more than just volume and velocity, that poise and poignancy are just as powerul tools to the astute musician.

And the space afforded by this less cluttered approach allows plenty of room for new sounds to shine through, not just the acoustic guitars, but Phil Peterson’s mournful and moving cello. However, the overall song dynamic is set by the fact that although it begins in more spacious climes, it has numerous explosive moments that allow Brett Farkas’ electric guitars to soar and sear, Dan Lutz’s bass to pulsate and propel.

It’s not only a great song, one that wanders between the anthemic and acoustic, but a song that adds a new dimension to Eddie Cohn’s music. Great stuff.
