Eddie Cohn - Weight of the World (self-released)

14 April 2026

There is something that Eddie Cohn does better than much of the competition: layering. He clearly understands that impact doesn’t always need to come from the big and bombastic, the bold and the bruising, but that a collective gathering of subtler sounds, layered up and woven tightly together, can have just as powerful an effect. It’s what he does, and he does it so well on this, his latest single.

And so, although at its core, “Weight of the World” is a simple piece of acoustic pop, this unadorned line is gradually cocooned in all manner of sounds, shimmering electric guitar motifs, chimming sonics, drifting synths, beats that are both spacious and driven, mournful strings, and of course, his warm and welcoming vocal. And thus it builds incrementally from the restrained to the anthemic, carrying us along so effortlessly, so naturally that it is only in hindsight that we realize how far we have come: what starts seductive and sedate ends up scintillating and impactful, but gently and gracefully so.

Listen to the lyrics, and the message is clear. The world is getting louder, it is full of noise – white noise, digital noise, urban noise, human chatter, machine mayhem – it is a wonder we can hear ourselves think. But at least we have the harmony and melody of artists like Eddie Cohn to help restore the balance, block out the audible Sturm und Drang and act as a bulwark against that rising, roaring, racing sonic tide.
