Eddie Cohn - Wheels Stop (self-released)

21 February 2025

Some music is big. Some music is clever. Or, put another way, some is made for the heart and some is aimed at the head. It is that old demarcation between Apollonian and Dionysian music. Most artists can capture one or the other aspect succinctly, but few artists can blend both so readily into their songs. Eddie Cohn is one of those artists that can.

His latest single, “Wheels Stop,” taken from the EP of the same name, is that rare thing, a song that lands with reassuring impact whilst also giving you something to think about. As I said, music satisfies both the heart and the head, as well as the body and the soul.

Straddling the pop-rock divide, “Wheels Stop” is both understated and anthemic as the mood takes it, flowing between pop contagion and rock energy to make its dynamic point.

Its point is this: It is time to bid farewell to negativity, to move away from the people, places, habits, and thoughts that restrict personal growth, and to embrace a path that leads you to a better understanding of who you are and, more importantly, who you can be.

With a string of songs to his name that already mark Cohn as a considerable songwriter and an exceptional vocalist, this is the high water mark. Or at least it is for now, as I don’t see Eddie Cohn stopping his quest to reach his full sonic and personal potential any time soon. Do you?
