Effusion 35 - Take Two (self-released)

14 February 2026

We shouldn’t live in the past, but it never hurts to revisit it from time to time, especially when you have been a band as long as Effusion 35 has. After all, don’t we all look back at our early creative efforts, whatever our chosen fields, and wish we had done things differently? Hindsight is a glorious thing. Not only did the band think that, but they did something about it, and so Take Two is the sound of them revisiting some of their earlier songs and giving them a sonic makeover. The clue is, after all, in the EP’s name!

And of course, such an action speaks to the idea of a song never really being finished, that they can, and indeed should, be remoulded, remixed, reimagined, rejuvenated whenever the mood takes you. and to that end, the EP is just the first in a planned series of Take Two EPs to be teased out over the next 3 years, and for now, this opening offering leans heavily on songs from the 2008 Stonewind album era.

Fan favourite, “Mindfuck” kicks us off, and a song that was one driven by a single six-string now benefits from a three-guitar salvo – a big and intricate, raw and raucous sonic punch. That’s how you make a statement.

“Calm” is the song that the band considers their greatest hit, one “ on the Mount Rushmore of Effusion 35 songs, “ a squalling, almost metallic, sonic maelstrom, and “Bad Neighbourhood” blends grungey energies with unexpected sing-along-ability!

And there is even room for a big and bombastic version of Bowie’s iconic “Moonage Daydream” to round things off, proving that they not only have great taste but that they can bend even the most recognisable songs to their own sonic will.

If you are already a fan of the band, you are going to enjoy these songs being updated, reshaped, and moving with the times, not to mention the band’s now more expansive lineup. If you are new to Effusion 35, it’s still a great place to first dip your toe in their waters.
