Eric Alexandrakis - Home (Minoan Music)

4 October 2024

There is an interesting duality at work on this latest single from Eric Alexandrakis, a sort of set of opposites that shift and collide, sometimes conflicting to create tension, sometimes complimenting to create harmony. But you know what they say about opposites and their ability to attract. This is indeed an attractive proposition.

Initially, it is the gentle musical flows and sonic flurries set against the whispered vocals set up these tensions. Then, the growing sense of the epic and anthemic put to such start imagery creates those opposing energies. And then, after about two minutes of this mystery and intrigue, everything seems to click into harmony, and all elements are found working towards the same end – that end being a big crescendo of sound and an impressive dynamic created by the song’s ability to ebb and flow between such searing, sky-scraping sonics, and more tempered and tethered creations.

If the music is an ever-evolving wave of sonic salvos, and spirals, grooves, and growth, the messages are much more straightforward. “Home” is about those moments in life when you have to stop in your tracks, leave behind your plans, and abandon, for now at least, your ambitions and head for home, the one place where you can drop the weight you are carrying, find love and acceptance, rest and recuperate, be who you truly are and where you are meant to be.

We have to move forward in life, but sometimes, when other forces prove too much, you have to take a step backward to find the momentum to return to the fray. Returning to your roots is often the best way to find that strength and momentum to return to the fight with renewed vigor. Home is, after all, where the heart lies.
