I guess that we are so far down the road from Britpop that artists inspired by that sound are now considered knowledgeable nostalgists rather than the bandwagoners they might have been a decade ago (and it feels like only yesterday that I remember hearing ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’ and thinking that the musical landscape was shifting for the better).
But perhaps that is slightly unfair to Euplasia because for every 90’s indie vibe found flowing through ‘Forever Remember’ there are plenty of modern moves and contemporary grooves. So, the best of both worlds, I guess.
Mid-paced and yet sounding massive, especially when the choruses hit those cinematic crescendos, it strikes the perfect balance of poise and power; guitars chug, slash, shimmer, and cascade as required; beats are energetic but never dominant; and the song captures that same blend of understatement and anthemic punch the best Oasis songs revelled in. But, as I said, this is about finding inspiration in your old record collections rather than merely riding coattails for the sake of it, perfect for a song that looks back at our more innocent, formative, sun-strewn salad days, and reminds us to recognise them for what they are even while we are still living them.
Life moves fast; soon those exciting days quickly become just the conversations you have with friends over a pint or two…no more, you have work in the morning. Make the most of them; see them for what they are; let these best days of your lives slip gently into rose-tinted memories, but don’t forget to eke out every ounce of enjoyment from them while you are living them. You won’t pass this way again, except in the nostalgic reverie of reminiscence.
And occasionally in really cool songs like this.
