What’s better than one dark, gnarly, razor-edged slice of scintillating post-punk? Well, three slices of the same! And that is what Fernando Honorato under his solo moniker of Fernando’s Eyes gives us…or rather one and then two remixes.
Known as the lead singer and songwriter of Principe Valiente, this solo venture not only sees him explore the darker corners of the human condition, such as self-doubt, anxiety, and the cyclical and interconnected nature of personal struggles, but offers a fantastic first taste of his album to follow.
In its original form, “A Million Times” blends raw indie energies with brooding darkwave vibes, a soundscape forged of analog guitar-wielding and digital dexterity. But any song built from integrity and authenticity should also be able to stand up to remixing and reimagination – a good song should be a good song no matter what genre or style it has evolved into.
And so, here, we find the song taking a turn into an echo of the early 80’s goth-groove/darkwave-dance collision point – one that the Blitz Kids would eventually monetize as the New Romantic sound – thanks to the “Albert Severin Remix” and then we follow it into a sort of industrial-ambient-cinematic gothscape courtesy of the “Magic Wands Remix.”
This sonic package reminds us that there is no such thing as a finished song; there is always another sonic chapter to be written, and more often than not, it is written by another’s hand.
