Follow That Bird burst onto the national scene last year with the lead track on Matador Records’ Casual Victim Pile comp of Austin bands. The rest of the record was good but I couldn’t get that first track, “The Ghosts That Wake You”, out of my head. While neither track on Wooden Bones is quite on the infectious level of that stellar song, both the tracks on this 7” are quite good. They are similar to, say Warpaint or other reverby female-led groups but more aggressive, with almost a Sleater-Kinney snarling warble. This packs a punch.
All of FTB’s releases are must-haves and all but one are available digitally at their bandcamp site, that being their exquisite one-sided 10” from Monofonus Press. So now armed a super comp track, an essential 10”, and now this 7”, FTB has whet my appetite enough. I need the full-length ASAP.
