‘Festival in a Bar’ is a wonderfully self-referential song. It’s both a love letter to the music pubs and basement venues that keep the grassroots music scene alive and the sort of glorious sound that, when heard in such venues, would prompt someone to their own sonic celebration in song form. Clever.

And Fools Arcade sums it up perfectly: their raw but infectious riffs, driving beats, effortless groove, clever dynamics, sing-along-ability… everything here echoes exactly why such scenes endure. Even if they do so largely out of earshot of those self-appointed taste makers, gatekeepers, and influencers (imagine the sound of me spitting on the floor at this point), they are a constant in the lives of those who make the effort to seek them out.
Forget those late-coming grifters who tag along once they spot a coat tail to ride, ‘Festival in a Bar’ is about everything real about the music scene – sticky floors, handmade merch, a glorious racket pushed through a dodgy PA, honesty, excitement and laying down the stuff of local legend…and, of course, cool bands whose only goal is to make everyone forget that you have work in the morning…as do they! Perfect.
