For Old Time's Sake - Together (FOTS Production)

2 October 2025

One of the great things about the modern age is that problems that would have made making music almost impossible in the past are now easily rectified. Which is why we find “Together,” the new one from For Old Time’s Sake, having had the music recorded in Australia and the vocals in The Philippines. But like I say, nah, not a problem.

Having been making music under this name for almost 20 years, “Together” is a taster of their fifth album, appropriately called Bridging the Gap.

“Together” sits somewhere between pop finesse and understated rock balladry, walking that fine line between radio-friendly polish and heartfelt engagement, genuine feelings and gentle anthemic. There’s a wistful air running through the song, a dedication of love that never tips into sentimentality, remaining authentic and honest throughout.

The guitars deserve a mention in their own right; everyone in the band is doing a great job musically, but there is something in the way the guitars serve the song particularly well, especially given its understated and nuanced nature. From deftly finger-picked meshes that gently cascade in the background, to shimmering motifs that run subtly yet unobtrusively through the middle ground, to grinding rock rhythms when the song needs to pick up the pace, and add a bit of weight and urgency, it’s a brilliant array of textures.

“For Old Time’s Sake” is a band new to me, and I know I am incredibly late to the party. Well, you can’t be everywhere, can you? But “Together” is one of those songs that demands that you make a mental note to not only check out the back catalogue but also keenly await the new album. And that is precisely why you release singles. Job done.
