fxrrvst - Hate Has No Home Here (self-released)

30 September 2024

Although written well over a year ago, if the theme of unity and love, resistance against the hateful machinations of the world, and a call to arms were relevant then, it is doubly so now. And, sadly, such songs are becoming more and more necessary by the day. But “Hate Has No Home Here” is more than just a song; it is an anthem, a rallying cry, and a soundtrack to the metaphorical (and perhaps actual) storming of the barricades.

Music has always been a useful tool for drawing together like-minded people and solidifying movements. However, in recent years, despite the ever-increasing need for such a tool, music seems to have lost its bite, with songwriters happier waxing lyrical about all sorts of incidental nonsense rather than issues that really matter.

Well, this is the sound of the tide turning. And even though the song comes from a place where lighter sonic winds prevail, where alt-pop and indie meet, its message is clear. It is perhaps because there is an openness and delicacy to the music, a vulnerability to the vocal delivery, space for atmosphere and anticipation to blossom and grow that makes the song even more accessible and, therefore, even more impactful. Not all anthems have to be big and brash and bombastic. In fact, as “Hate Has No Home Here” proves, they are better when that isn’t the case.

fxrrvst understands that they are lucky enough to have a public platform, and being afforded such a space would be a complete waste if they didn’t use it as a launchpad to say something meaningful. They also understand you can do all that while still delivering an infectious and accessible slice of indie-pop.
