Getting Started - Getting Started (Getting Started Records)

17 December 2025

By pushing pop’s accessibility and infectiousness into a space where it can absorb some of the weight and energy of rock, Getting Started has created a sound with broad appeal. The pop-pickers and chart followers will love the effortless artistry of the songs; those who are fans of a heavier sound will find lots to like here, and the indie kids will revel in the easy cool and groove of the songs.

“Easy Sympathy” might feel like a lighter way to kick off but it soon builds into an anthemic piece, big but not oppressively so, but then, as “Take Care” kicks in after it, its mix of grungey onslaught and chiming riffs, drive, and deftness shows that this is a band that can carve a good song out of any soundscape that they decide to explore.

“30 Years” blends indie-pop jaunt with a rootsy undercurrent, “One Road” is an excellent take on understated balladry evolving through a rising sonic weight, a simple song cloaking itself with increasingly ornate sonic swathes to build it into a lush piece of soundscaping and “Get Up” is a raw slice of indie that echoes the great early 2000’s guitar revivalist bands such as The Strokes or Franz Ferdinand at their more understated and emotive.

The songs on this debut have been drip-fed into the public consciousness since the band’s first single, “Reverberation,” saw the light of day some 2 years ago. But it is only when you hear everything back-to-back as one solid and consistent body of work that you realise what an impressive musical canon Getting Started has already created for themselves.

Wherever they go next, you are going to want to watch closely. Very closely indeed.
