Heddy Edwards - The other side of town (self-released)

30 March 2026

As much as artists may try, as much as they think that they are emulating their musical heroes, some influences and inspirations are perhaps beyond everyone’s reach. Kate Bush and Tori Amos are certainly two that spring to mind, but Heddy Edwards comes closer than most in finding a way into their rarefied plane of sonic existence.

That is not to say that she has set out to ride their coattails; plenty is going on here that marks Edwards out as an artist in her own right, but it is fair to say that if you like the aforementioned artists, as well as the likes of Bat For Lashes and Lana Del Ray, you will love everything about her latest single, “The other side of town.”

And what starts as a moody slice of indie-pop grows into something more singular and sensational as the song runs, deepening, broadening, becoming more wide-screen and cinematic, and becoming more nuanced, layered, and textured, rather than merely bigger, as it goes. But here, there is always room for the light to get in, and that is what keeps things luminous and lush.

By the time the chorus rises for the last time out of the gorgeous understaments that precede it and that energetic beat and groove kick in, if you haven’t made a mental note to dust off and play Hounds of Love in it’s entireity, perhaps many times in a row, then perhaps music this tasteful, this serene, this seductive, is not for you after all.

Heddy Edwards certainly knows where she is going, but she certainly knows where her brand of exquisite music has been.
