Bands such as MAYFAIR, e suppoze, and The Naughty Daughters have seen this group of musicians actively making all manner of music for the last three decades. Now, as HØME, they merge and meld and match and mold all those sounds together into a startling new sound and an exciting new musical chapter awaits.
With their first EP, Finding North now out, it is through the single, “Dance of Life,” that I have experienced my first taste of this new sound, a first glimpse of the latest chapter of their already storied career.
And like all great music made in the modern age, it is through taking sounds from the past and weaving them together in new and interesting ways that they find their signature sound. “Dance of Life” brilliantly blends sounds and styles that don’t generally get to hang out with each other.
The core sound is one of driving rock guitar, but this is steered as much through a landscape littered with indie groove and pop infectiousness as it is through the heavier, more expected direction of travel. And that is the song’s key, that neat juxtaposition of grinding guitars and vocal whoops of joy, danceable grooves and slashes of spacious indie sonics, music definitely made between pop and a hard place…and that always pays dividends.
