I.D.K. - Nark 5 (self-released)

3 March 2026

Old punks never die, as the saying goes, but neither do they seem to fade away. The most you can say is that they might take a bit of a breather before returning to the sonic fray. But don’t let the fact that this is I.D.K.’s first original composition in a decade and a half, patience is a virtue, all good things come to those who wait, and all that malarky…“Nark 5” is a killer track.

Fans of Star Wars will recognise Nark(ina) 5 as being the place of incarceration of one Cassian Andor in the franchise’s return to form (and then some) series Andor. And whilst this is a song about his confinement, the subsequent uprising, and finally his release, its themes of being trapped, finding hope, the growth of resistance and sense of unity, and the cost of freedom are more than applicable to the world around us today. I doubt if there was a time when they weren’t, to be honest.

And for a song thematically built on such energy and ideology, action and rebellion, I.D.K has created the perfect sonic vehicle, one that rises from slow yet anthemic openings and then explodes into a song built on kick-arse speed-punk pace, raging riffs, and roaring sonics. This is music made with one foot on the monitor and one fist in the air.

Sometimes you want music that allows you to think and absorb, contemplate and consider. Sometimes you want a song that picks you up, sweeps you off your feet, and carries you along on its sonic tsunami. This is one of those times.

Old school punk euphoria made over for the modern fan. And if you love a bit of sci-fi, too, it’s a win-win.
