Jackson Watson - No Place Like Home (self-released)

16 April 2025

He may have been off the scene for a while, but “No Place Like Home” is the sound of Jackson Watson coming back strong. Not only that, but it also shows us that he hasn’t lost any of his creative chops. This is ironic considering that this song is the product of a long and challenging year trying to write the next round of songs to follow up 2022’s Numb. But like they say, the best things in life are worth waiting for. “No Place Like Home” has undoubtedly been worth the wait.

Blending sonic strands of 80’s power pop and funk-infused, accessible rock, not to mention plenty of more soulful and R&B vibes, this is an infectious, not to mention effective song.

It is not just an impressive song but has relatable lyrics, too. Taking in themes relating to the fear of true freedom, the consequences of irreversible actions, friendships falling apart, and the feeling of an existential panic attack, this is a song that we can all relate to, in part. Sometimes, all those things that we surround ourselves with, all those things that are so familiar and comforting, those things that we regard as the non-physical part of our sense of home, can be swept away in an instant, and that is a scenario being faced by the narrator here.

Welcome back, Jackson Watson; the music world is all the better for your return.
