Jane N' The Jungle - Parasite (Angel Rock LLC)

15 August 2025

If you want to know where alt-rock is in this current age, you could do worse than to bend an ear to the latest single from Jane N’ The Jungle. “Parasite” is everything you need to know, the perfect sonic signpost showing the way to the cutting edge of the current rockscape.

“Parasite” is an astute blend of genres, recognisable sounds that are either bent into new shapes or coiled around other sounds that you perhaps wouldn’t expect them to be compatible with. It’s alt-rock, yes, but one armoured with a metal sheen, employing an industrial intensity and shot through with nu-metal digital teeth. But underneath, rising through the spaces is a skittering, ticking time-bomb and almost trap-infused percussive line, although it is often pummelled into the background by big rock drums. I wasn’t expecting that to be there, but it does its job perfectly!

Here, Jane N’ The Jungle reminds us that you don’t need velocity or volume to make an impact when you have poise and dynamic weight, and “Parasite” is more about a slower, more relentless crushing of the senses than a quick, clichéd hit. And that unexpected grace and grandeur also bring out some less expected gothic vibes, which is never a bad thing.

It’s a song that is dark and dystopian, written on an anthemic scale, and whose more considered speed of attack adds a wonderful sure-footedness to the proceedings. It is futuristic, shimmering with an almost robotic power, and it is everything those in the rock and roll community, in the broadest sense of the term, will be hailing as the sonic shape of things to come.

Visionary stuff!
