Janita is proof that you don’t have to play by the rules laid down by others to find success in the more mainstream markets, that there are as many different ways of following a unique career path as artists who are seeking to do so. The art is to dedicate yourself to yourself, do things that are important to you, in a way that is comfortable for you, and then just wait for the world to catch up and cotton on. It might take a bit longer, but when it happens, you will be safe in the knowledge that people like you for who you truly are rather than as someone who has played the industry game well.
“Let’s Go” is just one more example of her playing by her own rules. In its indie jangle and pop-aware sensibilities, in its understated rock vibes and alternative mindset, you hear both the fresh and the familiar dancing together. It sounds like a better form of mainstream music, a song built on attitudes of authenticity, integrity, originality, and artistry, yet with all the immediacy and hook that such a place thrives on.
In many ways, “Let’s Go” in particular and Janita in general feels like a Trojan Horse, a sonic force that has smuggled it’s way past the mainstream gatekeepers and once inside gone to work changing the landscape merely by setting higher standards and showing that higher benchmarks can be strived for that still result in the most creative and contagious, articulate and appealing, intellegent and infectious music.
Lead by example.
