While I really enjoyed this duo from The ‘Couv’s debut full length, Post Nothing, what I’ve really come to look forward to are their series of 7” singles. Each one has had a non-album track backed with a cover. Their choice of artists to cover has been pleasing, with the group doing renditions of X, PJ Harvey, and Big Black tracks to date. With The House That Heaven Built, the band issues a call to arms. It punches with a power that Arcade Fire musters with ten times the number of members. Maybe the most energetic song of the band’s career thus far. The cover for this fourth installment in their 7” series is Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds‘ “Jack The Ripper,”. A more amped version than Cave & co.‘s, Japandroids don’t know subdued. Even with a much different take on the vocal and bigger sound, they still maintain some of the creep factor of the original. Check it out below. Enjoy.
