Jeff Vidov - Signs of Life (Vidov Records)

17 August 2026

Given Jeff Vidov’s background – a choir conductor, session pianist, film composer, and musical theater director, not to mention making a name for himself in as keyboardist in numerous live jazz and rock bands – it is no surprise that his music comes from a different place than your average pop and rock songs. And this latest single, his sixteenth, ‘Signs of Life,’ is the perfect summation of his unique sound.

It’s a big song, wide-screen, filmic, and orchestrally infused, but thanks to the driving beat and buoyant bass runs, incendiary guitar break, and his strident underpinning piano, it is also infectious and groovesome. A succinct and perhaps surprising interlacing of the world of sound score composition and anthemic stadium rock power, of the finessed and the fiery, the big and, at the risk of perpetuating cliched writing, clever. It’s very, very clever.

Bringing all of those sounds together in one place, not to mention getting those opposites to move around and through each other so attractively – the precision of the orchestral world and the rawness of rock and roll – is no easy task, but Vidov makes it sound effortless.

‘Signs of Life’ is the sound of worlds colliding, but creatively and under his control; it is a place where not only do genres become irrelevant, but whole musical disciplines are marvelously and miraculously married.

And all of this is a wonderful reminder of one important truth. Forget sounds and styles and genres and chronologies…music is music is music…. It’s as simple as that.
