Although the sonic encounters I have had with Jesse Kinch are still few, he has already left an indelible impression on my mind as a writer of epic yet accessible, anthemic, and infectious songs —songs crafted in the classic rock mold for the modern audience.
This time out, he tells his story, “Born Ready,” neatly detailing his formative years as a rock star in waiting, the musically gifted kid waiting to unleash his talent on the world, which makes the song a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy. He lays out his tale and talks of his young yearning to make big and bold rock and roll music, and now, here he is, doing just that to accompany his story.
Anticipation builds as he lays out his autobiography, the music raising the heat and waiting to blow, which it does about halfway through the song, exploding in salvos of raw, gnarly guitars and pummeling beats, big sonics and fist-in-the-air sonic celebrations.
Blending alt-rock and grunge and classic rock immediacy, and employing the sort of staccato vocal deliveries that worked so well for Red Hot Chili Peppers, “Born Ready” is a glorious release of energy, a real statement of who Jesse Kinch is and the sort of song that demands that you stomp and boogie, and jump and jive across the dancefloor, around the barbeque or the kitchen floor, anywhere you happen to find yourself when its unmissable energies hit the airwaves.
