Johnny & The G-Men - 3 Minutes After Midnight (Big Mac Entertainment)

3 February 2026

If a lot of rock and roll is, apparently, inspired by the effect that booze and pills have on the creative juices, “3 Minutes After Midnight” is the reality check, the stark and honest light of the next day, the cold come down. If substance abuse has been with humanity for thousands of years, then this is a story that started the very next day.

It’s a song of reflection, a confessional, the slow realization that whilst such pastimes might be fun while you are indulging, eventually you wake up to the fact that your friends have deserted you, your life is a meaningless cycle of dependence, and, worse than that, none of it actually makes your life better, quite the opposite.

Rising from an acoustic rock and roll groove into a growling, Americana anthem, it moves forward in sonic increments, adding beat and riff and bass pulses, it blends muscle and melody, the electric roar balanced by scintillating sonic threads, deft guitar lines, space, and a brilliant ebb and flow of dynamics. Tom Petty would have been happy to have this song in his back catalog.

With one foot in the earth of the Americana camp and the other firmly placed on the monitor of rock and roll, this is music that feeds off both, deftly dancing around the rootsy-rockscape to brilliant effect.
