Electronic R&B artist Joshua Worden is back with his new album Into Fog. Providing 12 new tracks, the Atlanta musician is at the top of his game and better than ever. Into Fog is a more ambient and atmospheric album than Worden’s previous work. There’s a heavier reliance on electronics as well as a greater application of them, which means the moods on this offering are absolutely splendid at every turn, perfecting the sound he had set himself up for on Always This. Worden spends more time here setting up the song, letting the music unfold naturally, as on the title track “Into Fog” which starts quietly before locking into place and clicking into its groove.
The rest of the album is just as beautiful, and it definitely seems as if there is more focus on the music and the emotions wrought from his vocal delivery than the words themselves, although the lyrics are still equally as strong; but Worden even includes short little instrumentals like the seductive and aptly-titled “Warmth” or “Wake, Child,” sandwiched in between the longer more fleshed out songs. With Into Fog, Worden proves once again why his name should be up there with other artists doing similar things today, like Frank Ocean.
