Kaatwalk - Build (self-released)

6 November 2026

Kaatwalk makes music that is akin to holding a gemstone up to the light. As the light catches it one way and then another, it reveals different sonic colours: turn it one way, and you get ethereal pop; move it again, and folk finesse streams out; turn it a third time, and timeless singer-songwriter vibes scatter, and so on. It is why she is so hard to tie down, but then all the best music makers are.

The title track opens and gets straight down to proving my point, poppy and pacey, yet delicate and dexterous; the more you play it, the more it reveals its charms – folky fiddles sweep through, dynamics ebb and flow, and boy, that voice.

‘Love Yourself’ is both lyrically poignant and sonically poised; over shimmering sounds and chiming percussion, she not only gets to the heart of a very important truth, but does so with a vocal delivery that should be studied in music lessons. ‘Monster – 2nd Life’ sees Kaatwalk embracing a blend of gypsy-jazz meets occasional rock urges meets bossa nova groove; ‘Sorry I Ate Your Cereal’ injects a country jaunt into the proceedings, while ‘Can’t Be Alone’ is built as much on heartache as music.

If you like acoustic music built on elegance, which doesn’t shy away from occasional pop contagion, folk music that feels both timely and timeless, roots music from rarefied heights, music with a troubadouric sensibility for the modern age, then you will find all that and more here.
