Katie Kate - "Sadie Hawkins"

Katie Kate, the connoisseur of a quirky motley of melodic pop and vicious rap, has recently released “Sadie Hawkins,” a sensational single from her upcoming LP Nations out August 5th. Although the new track doesn’t feature any of Katie Kate’s biting raps, “Sadie Hawkins” is a blissful pop masterpiece that recalls Katie Kate’s extensive classical background through which she channels her wonderfully quirky talents.

With a simple thumping bass line, a few plucks of a jangly guitar, and a light plunking drum beat, “Sadie Hawkins” flows with refreshing ease. However, Katie Kate’s melodic gentle vocals, a stark contrast to her wicked raps, and her cunning lyricism are the real highlights of this new track. She brings the concept of a Sadie Hawkins Dance—something we associate with past decades, perhaps a cheesy 90s sitcom—into a contemporary arena, using the term to warn some guy that being swept off his feet is imminent. She sings, “I’m gonna Sadie Hawkins you, you won’t even know what to do, ‘cause I’m gonna Sadie Hawkins you so hard.” And there you have it—Katie Kate turns “Sadie Hawkins” into a verb with real physicality. If that’s not the perfect line for a catchy pop anthem, I don’t know what is. Not only does “Sadie Hawkins” expose an entirely different side of Katie Kate, it shows her impressive aptitude for creating pop music as well as her overall versatility as an up-and-coming artist.
