“Bloom” is a much-needed message of hope and support in a world where it is easy to be dazed by the speed at which it turns and stunned by the things it does to us. It is natural to want to shy away when it all gets too much, when we have been hurt, when we think that we are better off on our own. But Lady Nade’s delicate and deft new single is a reminder that we will heal, things get better, and that our time will come again.
And, for a song with such a powerful and poignant message, it is built out of very few sonic strands, just a gentle and half-hidden acoustic guitar, the most minimal of beats, and a voice. But when you have a voice as serene and seductive, not to mention compelling and controlled, as Lady Nade, you don’t actually need too much else to get your song noticed.
It’s a song in the spirit of such iconic musicians such as Nina Simone and Joan Armatrading, Corinne Bailey Rae and Joni Mitchell, a pure and purposeful ballad, one that feels as if you have been listening to it your whole life, a forgotten sonic gem recently brought back to your consciusness. and if that isn’t the definition of a classic, I don’t know what is.
