Blending the classic and infectious pop-punk sound of Arvil Lavigne with the cutting-edge pop smarts and sophistication of the likes of Charli XCX and Olivia Rodrigo, “Dumpster Fire” is not only Lauren Ash’s 10th single in 2 years, it’s one helluva tune, a fist-in-the-air, party-starting, floor-filling anthem if ever there was one.
And, like all the best songs in this genre, it fully lives up to its name, blending pop contagion with a punk attitude, a dance groove with rock energy, a song that ticks all the right boxes for a big hit, and a scintillating summer soundtrack.
We can all relate; Lauren finds herself drawn to the bad boy hottie, but like all such objects of desire, they are too good to be true, and after weighing up the good – the looks, the charm, the charisma – with the bad – the lies, the shallowness, the stupidity – decides that she deserves better. Of course she does.
We’ve all been there, and we’ve all come to the same conclusion. So, as we punch the air to the big abrasive guitars, move to the groove, and go mad on the dance floor, we can take comfort in the fact that we have had the sense to move on and leave that toxic encounterbehind us, now just an anecdote that, given enough time, we can laugh about.
