Anthemic is a word much overused in the contemporary music world, admittedly by me as much as anyone. It is usually taken to mean a big, rousing, or uplifting sound or song. However, an anthem is also something identifiable with a particular group, body, or cause, perhaps even a quest. And if “I Got Lost” borders on the anthemic musically speaking, it certainly conforms to the term in its message.
“I Got Lost” is about the idea that we sometimes wander off the path that we are on, particularly in our spiritual beliefs, but it is through the process of getting lost that we often are better able to see the path more clearly, or find ourself better positioned to hear destiny calling for resoundingly.
Blending the brightness and euphoric qualities that only pop provides with the drive of rock and the shimmering sonics of indie, LightlongLife gives us something that takes the best aspects of all those genres and merges them together. The result is a searing pop-rock debut single.
Then, there is the video to consider. In this age where visuals, images, and art are at least one half of the single package, “I Got Lost” is an enticing watch. It is a panoramic panoply of breathtaking vistas and gorgeous backdrops, an array of earthly delights that somehow make the otherworldly, intangible, and spiritual nature of the song even more impactful.
As first singles go, this is an impressive calling card. Mark Lightlong Light down under “one to watch.”
