Linds Sais - Glitter Cowgirl (self-released)

4 August 2025

What is so great about Glitter Cowgirl, and indeed Linds Sais‘ sound in general, is her ability to tip her hat to the golden age of soul, which peaked in the mid-seventies while helping, in no small way, to usher in its contemporary, neo-soul successor.

Most people forget one crucial factor in their search for the next this or the successor to that: you can’t go back, you can’t replicate the past, at least not in any meaningful way. But you can take what makes those past eras so great and use it as the basis for what comes next. To this end, Lind Sais weaves iconic sounds through adventurous and forward-thinking musical modernity.

For every synth-infused, pulsing disco dancefloor filler, such as the titular opener, we find a soulful future-pop piece, like “Oxygen,” a track driven by digital beats and hazy, hallucinogenic vocals. For every cutting-edge, Latin groover like “My DMS,” a musing on the role of social media in modern dating, we have a timeless dance floor anthem, “Golden Hour,” complete with South of the Border vibes, a distant Mariachi trumpeteer, and a bossa nova sway. For every echo of Gloria Gaynor or Whitney Houston, there is a flavour more akin to Doja Cat or Sabrina Carpenter.

If the future is created by artists taking the sounds of the past and remoulding, remaking, reimagining, and rejuvenating them so that they stay relevant to a modern audience and move with the times, then Glitter Cowgirl is the sound of the future being created in real time.
