Loudness Wars - Spin You Around  (BadGuyRecords)

10 February 2026

Depending on your age, record collection, and general sonic demeanour, “Spin You Around” will remind you of any number of past sonic waypoints. Aging indie kids will hear The Cure in their early avant-pop phase. Dark-clad dance fans will pick up on the echo of Depeche Mode shaking off their pop days as they head towards electro-goth world domination. More commercially minded music fans might even be reminded of mainstream acts like the Thompson Twins.

What might surprise you the most, especially if, like me, you first encountered the band via their previous single, “Don’t Fall,” is how much more stripped back, starker, maybe more cool and clinical, and certainly digitally driven this latest single is. Well, there was always an element of that running through Loudness Wars’ sonic veins, but here the band are fully embracing more dark wave sounds and dancier vibes… and the results are as satisfying as they are unexpected.

But, being unexpected is where it is at, isn’t it? Why should a band keep giving you more of the same? Sorry to burst your bubble, but it’s not about you, the listener, after all. Isn’t it more important that a band explore their full potential rather than merely pander to your comfort zone’s expectations? (Hint: That is a rhetorical question; the answer is yes, yes, yes.)

Apparently, this track is the result of the band taking a break, giving the main man Jay time and space to explore a different musical tack. Something that was clearly the right thing to do. Two musical fronts of sonic attack for the price of one? Absolutely!
